SPA NIGHT WITH SASSI
Being cute comes naturally to Sassi, I on the other hand, require some maintenance. Since Los Angeles is one of the health & beauty capitals of the world, getting in our daily workout and beauty regime is key! It's no secret that Sassi is a pampered pooch so, when I invited her to join in on the fun, she was all ears.
WORK HARD, PLAY HARDER
Sassi may be small, but she is mighty (or so she thinks). No offense to anyone that is vertically challenged, but Sass definitely suffers from 'The Napoleon Complex'. When she meets anyone larger than her, she bows her chest and roars...and let me tell you, she has quite an ear piercing bark for such a small pup. That was also the case when she met her new, massive "friend" Bear (a four year old, 150 pound Newfoundland). He is a big teddy bear and is fascinated by Sassi. I'm pretty sure he thinks she's a new squeak toy. Differences aside, they both share a joy of hiking one of The Wonders of Hollywood- Runyon Canyon. It's about a 2 mile hike but don't let Sassi's size deceive you...she out walks me! She is a tumble weed when it comes to collecting dirt, branches, and canyon debris so, we always plan her park adventures right before bath day.
AFTER WORKING UP A SWEAT, IT WAS TIME FOR SOME REST & RELAXATION
It's no secret that Sassi is a posh pooch so, when it comes to maintaining her snow white coat she has her favorite go-to products. However, I thought we'd switch it up a bit this time around. I customized a
DIY MOTHER-DOGTER HAIR MASK to give both our locks some extra shine
All of these products can be found in your pantry and our safe to use on your furry friend. I have very fine hair (as in thin hair...not "Oh girl, your hair is FINEEEE") and Sassi is so tiny so between the two of us we didn't need too much product. Feel free to adjust accordingly if you have thick hair and/or a larger dog.
RECIPE:
1/2 Cup Oats (Oatmeal is a natural skin soother, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizer)
1 Teaspoon Olive Oil (Full of anti-aging elements and moisturizing antioxidants)
1 Teaspoon Castor Oil (Lots of natural antibacterial and antifungal properties, high in Vitamin E, minerals, proteins, and Omega 6 and 9 beneficial fatty acids. Promotes hair growth)
1 Teaspoon Coconut Oil (Similar to Castor Oil, it penetrates the skin better than most. It will also leave you smelling like a delicious cookie)
Dash of Cinnamon (Helps exfoliate and clear the skin. It brings blood and oxygen to the outer surface, stimulating the scalp and aiding in hair growth)
Juice of 1/2 Lemon (Helps eliminate dandruff)
*Drizzle of Honey (Another one of natures miracles... Honey is de-clogs the hair follicle. It is an emollient so it seals in moisture. It has antibacterial and antiseptic qualities that soothe and promote growth of strong, healthy hair.)
*1 Egg Yolk (Adds shine & prevents frizz)
* These are optional for my Vegan friends. Try switching it out for Avocado!
MIX ALL INGREDIENTS IN A BLENDER
APPLY TO HAIR & LET SIT FOR 15+ MINUTES
Sassi's patience was wearing thin, so I quickly applied one of my favorite face masks to let sit whilst I bathed her.
INTRODUCING: DR. BRANDT'S MAGNETIC FACE MASK
I discovered this mask when I demo-ed it on "The Doctors" TV show. You use a small magnet to remove the mask and then rub in the remainder... the result???...skin as smooth as a baby's bottom!
Shameless plug here:
OK...ENOUGH ABOUT ME...BACK TO SASSI
AFTER RINSING THE HAIR MASK OUT, WE MOVE ON TO STEPS 2 - 10
I'll spare you the details, but if a picture's worth a thousand words, I'm sure you can tell that after her salon grade treatment, she looked like a million bucks. I use a blue-ing shampoo & facial wipes from 'VIVA' (adorable packaging is always a plus) to really brighten her white coat and eye area, and the rest is well...CHI! I've been obsessed with their products since I was 13 but now they sell a K9 line and it smells equally as heavenly as the human stuff! I try to brush her teeth as much as possible but she puts up a fight every time. Point in case: maintain your dogs dental hygiene as it is crucial to their health, especially when they get up there in age. I take Sass to the groomer once a month to get her teeth brushed and will be getting her teeth professionally cleaned by her vet once she turns 3 in October (Shhh...don't tell Sassi about her bday present).
Oh, I may have left out a small detail... Sassi also got a bath and blow-out for her trip to her Mimi & Grandpoo's house. She insists on traveling in style.
